I’m honored…

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Everyone knows me as the Editor-In-Chief of The Bride and Bloom magazine where I provide wedding information and inspiration to tens-of-thousands of brides on the newsstands every quarter; but now I am my sister-in-law’s MAID OF HONOR (well, really Matron of Honor). My sister-in-law is getting married this Summer to a wonderful guy and I have been honored to be asked to be her right-hand-gal!

I have never been a Matron of Honor (or Maid of Honor); this will be a NEW EXPERIENCE for me. The last time I was a bridesmaid was in my early 20’s, so I am going to need all the help I can get!!! I don’t want to become a Type-A BRIDESMAID-ZILLA where I over-step my boundaries, nor do I want to be completely unhelpful and too busy to make time for the bride. I have been a bride once in my life and that was in 2001 to my best friend, my husband. I had 2 Maids of Honor and 4 bridesmaids along with a gamut of personalities and skin tones (all the way from African American, Asian, Indian and pale-pale Irish). I remember some of my girls were beyond helpful, some I could not believe their attitudes and some were neither here nor there. I know what kind of support a bride needs and I don’t want to make the same mistakes that often times a bridesmaids makes unknowingly.

I am beyond excited and now I am trying to figure out where I should start on being that right-hand-gal. I think I am going to ease into the role by watching 27 Dresses with Katherine Heigl. I never got a chance to catch this movie on the big screen, so I am looking forward to having a date night with my husband and watching this chick flick. It should be fun!

I PROMISE over the course of the next several months I will be supportive and helpful to my sister-in-law and her wedding in whatever areas that she needs assistance in. To keep me accountable, I am going to open a part of my personal life and MOH journey with you. I hope to get some good advice along the way from everyone. This will be a fun read through the eyes of me, the Editor-In-MOH!

Versatility, Simplicity & Comfort

During my busy stay here in NYC, I had the chance to view the new 2010 Jenny Yoo collection. My first introduction to the collection was intimately close-up in their bridal suite at The Barclay Intercontinental New York Hotel and then at their runway show at the flagship Jenny Yoo boutique in NYC. Jenny’s taste, philosophy and style comes through in her designs. There is a sense of simple elegance in her bridal gowns and bridesmaids collection.

The 2010 Alternative Bridal and Bridesmaids Collection is comfortable, beautiful, versatile, has pockets, easy to wear and wearable even after the wedding. Dresses for the entire wedding party have really come a long way. I especially love the range of up-to-date colors that the bridesmaids dresses come in. I really love this collection. Here’s a clip of an example of the versatility of her collection (click on link below). If you are shopping for your own bridal gown or for your bridesmaids dresses, you should schedule an appointment to go see these dresses in person at one of the many traveling Jenny Yoo trunk shows. You’ll really be able to see what I mean.
